“It is with great relief that Maureen and I can report to you that at 10:30 AM, Saturday, August
14, 2010 we received a telephone call from my attorney stating that Judge Ward has decided to
dismiss the State’s Attorney’s charges against me. This means that there will be no jury selection
on Monday, and no trial on Tuesday. Judge Ward went on to say that following careful review of
the issues there was no legal basis for the State’s claim against me.

“We can now get back to the work of the people, without distraction. This event shows that
the charges against me were baseless, without merit, and politically motivated. I am grateful
for the public’s ongoing and uncompromising support. The citizens and today’s decision have
rejuvenated my passion to serve for four more years. I’m confident our final expression of
support and success will be Republican Primary Tuesday, August 24th.
